Goal Setting For Success

By recording your dreams and goals on paper, you set in motion the process of becoming the person you most want to be. Put your future in good hands — your own.
— Mark Victor Hansen

Goals are great. Everyone should have one.
Having a goal can provide motivation, direction and purpose.

Where does a goal come from?
It comes from identifying the desire, a why, an answer for the question "Why are you working out/eating healthy food/Doing CrossFit?" or anything for that matter. This system works for all types of goals.

If you've never thought about it or aren't sure right now, take a moment. Close your eyes and think about why you're here. In 3 months, what would make you beamingly happy? What would be happening? Would you like to look better in the mirror? Be able to do a pull up? Be stronger or faster?

This is you finding your "why". Knowing your why, gives you fire power. Like gasoline on a fire, it allows the determination, commitment and focus you need, to happen.

We're going to take that and apply that to a goal setting system. You might have already heard of it, the S.M.A.R.T. system of setting goals too (Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant and Time bound). This system can provide the structure that's needed to create a strong connection to your wishes and wants and with this structure you can accomplish exactly what you desire.

Taking your answer to the questions above, try to make what you want to accomplish specific. Want to be healthy? Be specific. Does that mean lose weight? Get stronger? What? It's your choice.
Now how can it be measurable? If you want to lose weight, how much?
Is it attainable? Have others done it? Would you be the first? If you want to lose 10 pounds or 100, whats actually realistic to set yourself up for success?
Relevant to something important to you! Something that is going to stay on the forefront of your mind.
Time Bound. How quickly or long are you trying to accomplish this goal?

Here's a non S.M.A.R.T. goal, I want to lose weight.
Here's a S.M.A.R.T. goal, I want to lose 30 pounds in 90 days to become happier and healthier.

Your plan of action is the thing that gives the S.M.A.R.T. goal a chance. It is the stairs we climb to get to the door we want to pass through into this new world of accomplishment! Man, that sounds good! I want in!

But without the steps there’s no chance of getting to the door.
Knowing your why, or the thing you'd like to change or accomplish, is the first part. From there we can help you set up a realistic, manageable and easy to follow plan on your route to accomplishment and success.
