Watch the video below from Will Smith. His perspective, outlook on his reality and life are moving and powerful. Take a moment after to read the passages below.
“Greatness is not this wonderful, esoteric, illusive, God like feature that only the special among us will ever taste. It’s something that truly exists in all of us. It’s very simple. This is what I believe, and I’m willing to die for it. Period. It’s that simple.”
Have you ever looked at yourself in the mirror and taken a minute to really look and see who was there. To think about what is really deep down at the core of your being. Who you really are. What you’re made of, the pillars you build yourself on. They may be things like hard work, compassion, courage, integrity, respect, love and passion. That core is what naturally shines through you every second, every moment, in every decision and choice. Those pillars are you. What is in there? If you know what it is, you can state what you believe. You can say, with 100% surety and conviction, that this is me, this is what I believe and this is what I do. Find that person and meet them. Make friends. Be in touch with the real you.
“No matter how talented you are your talent is going to fail you if your not skilled. If you don’t study, if you don’t work really hard and dedicate yourself to being better every single day, you’ll never be able to communicate with your artistry the way that you want.”
The man who is a great fisherman will out catch the man who is not. But once the fish in the lake are gone, the lesser fisher man, the one with the skill to read a map to get to the next lake, he will stay full while the other goes hungry.
Everyone can have a great work ethic. When you know who you are, what your built on, then it’s simply a choice. A choice to continue and evolve, past where you had once been. Whether we want it to or not, the earth keeps spinning and time keeps ticking, and each opportunity we have to better ourselves and the people around us is an opportunity that we must choose to take advantage of. You want to get better, be a better family member, get a better “Fran” time, do it. Choose to do so; every moment you have an opportunity. No matter how insignificant that moment may seem, there’s opportunity.
“If you’re going to be here, then there’s a necessity to make a difference.” … “I want to do good. I want the world to be better, because I was here.”
It doesn’t take “extraordinary” people to do extraordinary things. It might be as simple as a smile, a wave or high five. But it can change someone. Take them from sadness to happiness, boredom to attention, weakness to strength. And what’s amazing is that everyone has the ability to help share and influence these changes. There is no magic power. It takes caring, compassion and a little bit of courage. This is one of the amazing qualities found in CrossFit. Support, caring and community. Leave your mark. Improve your community, help people in need and make a difference. No one is to big or to little for this.
“There’s a certain delusional quality that all successful people have to have. You have to believe that something different then what has happened for the last 50 million years of history, you have to believe that something different can happen.”
You know who you are and you know your capabilities. They are endless, if you believe they are. It’s not a wavering thought that comes and goes which makes you able to accomplish your wildest dreams. It’s an unyielding and undeniable grip on your certainty that you choose to achieve and WILL accomplish.
“It takes such a desperate, obsessive focus, you really have to focus with all of your fiber, all of your heart, and all of your creativity.”
Be relentless in your pursuit of evolution. Your dreams can remain dreams or they can become reality. You’re infinitely powerful. Don’t be satisfied with mediocrity, the regular or average. Strive for virtuosity, mastery and excellence.
